Profile of the Czech Republic Crafter Vaclav Obsivac
Vaclav Obsivac resides in the Kingdom of Wallachia in the Czech Republic and is known to most by his nickname “Vinco.” Vinco has always held interest in symmetric geometric shapes created with the beauty of wood. He is a self described “Puzzle Maniac and Puzzle Collector.” Enjoying puzzles with his children, he began crafting in 1999. His first contact with Puzzle events was at the World Puzzle Championship held in Brno in the Czech Republic. In this event, he prepared two puzzles for attendees whom took turns solving each and showing his craft.
Vinco is a distinguished crafter, whom loves working with woods familiar to his region and has been inspired by the works of Coffin, Lensh, Pelican, Dubois among others. Most of his puzzles move on “coordinated motions” that are very popular to puzzle collectors all over the world.
The Interlocking Solid style puzzles that Vinco is famous for do not have a space inside, like a traditional puzzle box but are precision cut pieces that are formed together in interesting shapes. Vinco’s early puzzles were geometric shapes containing edges only, but have evolved to complex shape and design, using a mixture of natural color forming interesting patterns. Each piece Vinco’s releases are carefully handcrafted, polished and waxed to present a very nice addition for serious puzzle collectors. His Bicone Puzzle was voted to be one of the TOP 10 puzzles in IPP Competition in Japan, but Vinco’s motivation is to have collectors simply enjoy his craft.
When not crafting, he enjoys biking and skiing and enjoying the mountains. We wish to express our sincere thanks to Vinco, for providing us this background information, and allowing us to present his wonderful works for your consideration. Please be aware that these pieces are VERY limited in number.
