In the last month or two, the Wave Box (with a crayon) became available to Karakuri Lottery winners. Designed for an exhibition and available in very limited numbers, it sold out quickly. A bit disappointed that I was not able to purchase one directly, I had to resort to doing some “horse trading” to acquire a couple.
Crafted by Hiroshi Iwahara, I was intrigued by how this Puzzle would open. Showcasing 17 free moving plates, it looked to be somewhat complex, as many of his works are, but as Iwahara mentioned, it is NOT a difficult box at all to solve. Well-made and attractive contrasting wood color, (Walnut, Oak and Padoauk), I was actually hoping that this Trick Box would be a bit more challenging. The plates shift into a unique pattern when the puzzle is solved and a hidden drawer is revealed.
A larger puzzle, measuring 6.61 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches, it is solidly constructed. I won’t divulge how to solve the puzzle here, but I will say that others that we have for sale on our Trick Box Page are more complex.
